Sponsored Care Programs
The purpose of this program is to determine how well a new tracer (a substance given during a brain PET scan) can help identify tau (a protein found in the brain of people with Alzheimer’s disease). In order to do this, comparisons are made between the brain PET scans of people with Alzheimer’s disease and those without. After passing, comparisons are then made between the brain tissue of people who pass from Alzheimer’s disease vs other conditions. The goal is to develop a tau-protein tracer that can help diagnose Alzheimer’s disease earlier so that potential preventative measures and treatments can be developed. This sponsored care program is for people in hospice or with a one-year or less life expectancy. Participation involves one screening visit (either at Esperanza Clinical or at the patient’s home) and one brain PET scan (for which transportation may be provided), and then brain donation upon passing. The benefits include a $3,000 stipend that can help cover funeral costs, body transportation after passing, a detailed brain PET scan report and all clinical results from the exam, as well as the opportunity for participants to make an invaluable contribution to advancing AD research.
